LP of Henrico County Makes Big Impact on Local Crowd

Great weather, great food, and open-market Capitalism ruled the day as the Glen Allen Ruritan Club put on its annual Glen Allen Day at Crump Park Saturday September 25th. In spite of being in competition with the State Fair traffic was steady all day.

The Libertarian hospitality booth featured Libertarian information, Badnarik presidential material and an assortment of promotional material.

George Marchenko, LP of Henrico County Chairman, organized the booth. George and Leonard Harris staffed the booth all day. Billy and Judy Harris covered the booth during lunch. John and Sarah Mullin stopped by at 4:00pm to help pack-up and Bill Walker provided the tent.

The booth provided a great opportunity to educate the public about the Libertarian Party. Also number of parents, teachers, and students also stopped who needed information for school reports. It was good to know that our government run schools are not yet censoring information about the LP.

George also had fun trying to get the people at the Kerry/Edwards table to take the Words Smallest Political Quiz. One refused and the other said that she would fill it out later. Guess they don't want to know where they stand?

The Republicans also had a table. One had to look very hard to find a Bush/Cheney sign or literature there. Perhaps some obscure BCFR provision prohibited them from promoting their Presidential candidate. Or perhaps they cannot defend Bush's out-of-control spending or his support of the Clinton gun ban?

Speaking of guns, Leonard openly carried his handgun all day. Hundreds of families with children, several police, two Democrats, and we are happy to report that there were no incidents of anti-gun bigotry.

Highlighting the afternoon was a visit to the Libertarian booth from local TV personality Mike Lee who taped an 'on-location' program segment promoting Libertarianism, individualism, and private property. Mr. Lee, an outspoken advocate of personal responsibility and freedom, hosts a weekly call-in program on Richmond local Comcast programming. Today's segment on the controversial topic of "more responsibility, less government," featured observations from Mr. Harris and Mr. Marchenko as well as Mr. Lee's analysis and thought provoking insight. The show is expected to air on Richmond Comcast Cable Ch 6 this Wednesday at 8:00 or 8:30pm.
